The headache of scaling past 3 meters
Building something over 3 meters isn’t as simple as just adding more tubes. It gets risky. Long quartz tubes have a tendency to sag. Or worse, they vibrate and snap. We’ve seen it happen. To stop that, we use reinforced supports and mounting brackets that actually let the metal and quartz “breathe” as they heat up. If you don’t account for that expansion, your tubes will crack the very first time you turn them on. And don’t forget the power. On these long runs, voltage drops are a real pain. If the power isn’t balanced, you’ll get uneven heating across the glass. We fix this by segmenting the wiring, keeping everything steady from end to end.
The trade-offs you should know about
More power means faster preheating. That’s the win. But the catch is the load on your electrical panel. A 3-meter twin-tube array pulls a massive amount of current. You also have to be obsessive about your cooling fans and ventilation. If the air doesn’t move, the housing overheats. When that happens, the lamps “heat soak” and their lifespan plummets.
