
Why Your Bathroom Needs More Than Just a Heater
Most people think of those infrared lamps in the bathroom as a way to stop the shivering when you step out of the shower. I see them differently. To me, they aren’t just about keeping you warm—they’re about fighting moisture.
The trick to killing the damp
Here’s the thing about standard heaters: they just warm up the air. If your ventilation isn’t great, that warm air actually traps the humidity. It’s a bit of a loop. But infrared is different. Instead of heating the air, it goes straight for the surfaces—your mirror, your tiles, the walls. It turns light into heat right where it hits. When those “cold spots” in your bathroom stay warm, water can’t settle on them. No condensation. No damp corners. And since mold needs a wet place to hang onto, it basically loses its grip. It’s a way to keep the room dry without having to blast a loud exhaust fan all day and night.
The tricky part of the install
Now, to actually make this work, you need a lot of power in a small space. We usually go with quartz halogen tubes because they heat up almost instantly. But there’s a catch. These things gethot. Really hot. If you slap them too close to plastic trim or use cheap glue, you’re going to warp the housing. It’s a balancing act. You have to make sure the wattage is high enough to do the job, but not so high that it melts your fixtures.
A healthier way to wake up
When we build these into mirror heaters, the fog just disappears. Instead of fighting the steam, the infrared energy pushes the moisture off the glass and back into the air where it can be vented out. It’s a simple, mechanical fix for a gross biological problem. You get a clear mirror, a lot less mold to scrub, and a room that feels cozy the second you flip the switch. It’s just faster. Much faster.
