
Making Bathroom Heaters That Don’t Blind You
When we’re building infrared lamps for the bathroom, the biggest headache isn’t the power—it’s the light. Most standard short-wave lamps are basically spotlights. They blast this blinding white light that’s just too much, especially if you’re bathing a baby or just trying to wake up in the morning. Nobody wants that kind of glare hitting their eyes first thing. So, we changed how the light actually works. Keeping it easy on the eyes We use special coatings on the quartz glass and tweak the filaments to filter out those harsh peaks of light. Here’s the trick: we narrow the spectrum. We push the energy into the infrared band—the part your body actually feels as heat—and dial back the blue light. It’s a simple trade-off. We lose a little bit of brightness, but you get a soft, warm glow that doesn’t feel like a surgical theater. Dealing with the steam Bathrooms are brutal. You’ve got humidity, steam, and the occasional splash. To stop things from shorting out, we use IP-rated seals to keep the water away from the electrics. We also use high-purity quartz for the bulbs. Why? Because these things go from ice-cold to scorching hot the second you flip the switch, and cheap glass would just crack under that kind of pressure. A quick heads-up on installation The heat is almost instant, which is great. But there’s a catch. These lamps getreallyhot on the surface. If you jam them into a tight ceiling without any room to breathe, you’re asking for trouble. Without a bit of airflow, the heat just builds up. Eventually, the safety switch will trip, or worse, the plastic around the fixture starts to warp. Before you wire these in, just double-check your clearance. Give the unit some space to vent, and your sockets won’t burn out prematurely.
