Most heating elements just can’t take it. They burn out in six months, and you’re left with a useless piece of glass. We wanted to build something that actually lasts. Instead of using those chemical sprays that wear off after a few weeks, we put the infrared element right behind the mirror. It keeps the glass warm enough that the dew point never hits. We use short-wave infrared because it’s fast. It punches through the glass and clears the view almost instantly. No scrubbing, no wiping, just a clear mirror. The balancing act Here’s the tricky part: we want the mirror to defog fast, which means we need more power. But if you cram too much heat into one tiny spot, you risk cracking the glass. It’s a delicate balance. We’ve spent a lot of time tweaking the wattage and the size of the heating element so you get that quick heat without the risk of thermal shock. Just a heads-up—make sure your mirror is tempered or thick enough to handle the heat. At the end of the day, it comes down to the details. Proper seals and smart heat management are the difference between a heater that lasts a few months and one that works for years.
