
Keeping Things Warm in the Wet Stuff: Dealing with IP65 Infrared Elements
If you’ve ever tried to heat a locker room or a steamy changing area, you know the struggle. Standard lamps just don’t cut it. Between the humidity and the constant steam, normal circuitry tends to fry, and quartz tubes can crack the moment they hit a cold mist. It’s a mess. That’s why we build our replacement elements with an IP65 rating. In plain English? We seal them tight. Dust and water jets can’t get in, so your heaters don’t short out the second the room gets foggy.
Heat that actually hits you
Here is the cool part: we use short-wave infrared technology. Most heaters try to warm up the air, which takes forever. These are different. They shoot radiation directly at whatever they’re pointing at. You feel that warmth on your skin almost instantly. Inside, there’s a tungsten filament wrapped in high-purity quartz. Electricity hits that filament, it gets scorching hot in a heartbeat, and the quartz lets that heat pass straight through. It’s simple physics, and it works.
The nitty-gritty on the seal
When we talk about “IP65,” we aren’t just throwing a label on a box. We’re talking about the actual rubber and glass. We use silicone seals and reinforced glass covers to make sure water never touches the electrical terminals. If you’re swapping these into an old setup, just double-check your connectors. Most of our units use standard R7s or Sk15 pins, so they should drop right in. But please,**make sure that gasket is sitting flush.**Even a tiny 1mm gap is like an open door for steam, and that’s a one-way ticket to a burnt-out lamp.
A few things to keep in mind
These lamps pack a serious punch. You get that high-end, cozy warmth fast, but it puts a lot of pressure on your wiring. Make sure your breakers can handle the initial surge when they kick on. One more thing: the outer glass getshot. Like, really hot. To keep people from getting burned, we suggest mounting them at least 2.2 meters up. If you can’t do that, toss a protective cage over them. It’s a small step that saves a lot of headaches.
