
How to Actually Pick the Right Wattage for Your Bathroom Heater
Most people think that when it comes to infrared heaters, “more power equals more comfort.” But that’s not really how it works. It’s less about raw power and more about how that heat actually hits you. Unlike a space heater that tries to warm up all the air in the room, infrared goes straight for the skin. It’s that instant, cozy feeling you get when you step into the sun on a cold day. Getting the size right If you’ve got a tiny bathroom—you know, those little powder rooms under 4m²—you don’t need a beast of a machine. A 400W to 600W lamp is usually plenty. If you throw a 1000W unit in there, you’re just going to bake yourself and waste a ton of electricity. For the bigger bathrooms, maybe 6m² to 10m², you’ll want to look at 800W to 1200W. Here’s the catch: keep an eye on your ceiling height. If the lamp is too low and the wattage is too high, that “warm glow” can quickly turn into “too hot to handle.” You want a comfort zone, not a tanning bed. Water, electricity, and safety Bathrooms are wet. That’s a given. Because of that, we don’t mess around with the housings. We use sealed quartz glass and connectors that don’t mind a bit of moisture. The heating elements get incredibly hot, so the casing is built to let that heat out without warping your ceiling or causing a mess. It just works in the background so you don’t have to worry about it. The energy trade-off High wattage is great for that initial “blast” of heat when you first walk in. It’s fast. Really fast. But it does put more pressure on your electrical board. If you plug in three or four 1200W lamps on one circuit, you’re probably going to trip the breaker. Not a great way to start your morning. A better way to handle it? Toss in a timer or a dimmer. That way, you get the immediate warmth you want, but you can dial it back once the room feels right. Your energy bill will thank you.
